Germany's Liebherr Group has opened a concrete mixer plant near the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv. Liebherr Concrete Technology is the group's third production facility in the region. The investment amounts to 17 million euro.

The new plant

The site covers an area of 37,000 sq. m and the buildings and warehouses spread over 12,000 sq. m. The plant is already operational and employs about 120 people. It is located in Trakia Economic Zone, an industrial and commercial area near Plovdiv that's home to the group's two other production facilities.

Liebherr has been present in Bulgaria for over 20 years. Its first subsidiary, Liebherr Hausgeraete Marica, manufactures refrigerators and freezers and employs more than 2,100 people. The second company, Liebherr Transportation Systems Marica, produces air-conditioning systems for railway vehicles and employs 280 people.

The investment in the new plant includes 15 million euro for construction works and 2 million euro for the transfer of existing equipment from Germany as well as the purchase of new machines. It was made through Liebherr International's concrete technology business line.

From Plovdiv to Europe

Liebherr Concrete Technology is the group's only concrete mixer plant in Europe. The company plans to make 500 concrete mixers per year at the factory. It already manufactures 2,400 types of parts and pre-assembled units per year.

The products will be shipped to Liebherr's main machine-building unit in Bad Schussenried, Germany, as well as sold directly in Eastern Europe, Israel and Saudi Arabia. As much as 80% of the output will be destined for the western markets.
