GERB enjoys 8.4% lead in run-up to June vote

A survey conducted by Market Links, commissioned by BTV and carried out among 1,046 individuals from March 30 to April 7, predicts a similar share of party support in the upcoming election as in the previous one.

Among those who have pledged to vote (constituting 41% of respondents), 25.5% would vote for GERB-SDS. WCC-DB would receive 17.1%, while MRF would garner 11.8%. Following them are Vazrazhdane (10%), BSP (8.7%), and There Is Such a People (3.9%).

In addition to the 41% who are certain about voting, 22% of respondents say they would likely vote, 18% cannot decide at the moment, 7% are unlikely to go to the polls, and 12% have firmly decided not to exercise their right to vote.

Defense Ministry to increase military spending

Acting Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov announced that the ministry is requesting an increase in military spending, with plans for it to reach 2.5% of gross domestic product (GDP).

Zapryanov added that they are seeking an update in the compensation of servicemen and expect support for this proposed social package. He added with some irony that more modern equipment is expected at some point but there would be insufficient staff to operate it.

Meanwhile, GERB deputy Hristo Gadzhev announced in parliament that all parliamentary groups are introducing a draft law to raise military salaries by nearly 30%, aligning them with the average national wage.

European Commission to assist Bulgaria in Euro campaign

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Lyudmila Petkova and European Commissioner for Economy Paolo Gentiloni officially signed a Partnership Agreement between the European Commission and Bulgaria today in Luxembourg. The aim is to organize information and communication campaigns regarding the adoption of the euro in the country.

The document outlines the coordination of efforts between Bulgarian and European authorities to increase public awareness about the functioning of the Economic and Monetary Union and to support the smooth transition from the lev to the euro. The agreement is based on the updated Communication Strategy for Information and Publicity on the country's accession to the eurozone, issued in February 2024.
