Vassilev rejects Borissov's stipulation

Boyko Borissov is not in a position to set conditions, said former finance minister Assen Vasilev, co-chairman of WCC.

Vassilev was responding to the GERB leader's statement that negotiations between GERB and WCC-DB may take place after the June elections, but without Nikolay Denkov, Kiril Petkov and Vassilev in the negotiating team.

Tension between both sides appear to be rising amidst the election campaign and following the collapse of the informal rotational coalition agreement.

Population still falling but at a slower rate

Bulgaria's population is continuing to fall, according to the latest NSI data. In 2023 it shrank by 2,229 people, or by 0.03% to 6,445,481 people. Thus, in the last decade the population has shrunk by more than 800,000 people, according to the same data.

However, this year also marks the smallest decline in the country's population since records began in 2002.

The same data also shows more people moving to Bulgaria than leaving. Almost 57,000 people, mostly from Turkey, Ukraine and Russia, have chosen to move to Bulgaria, while 15,000 relocated to somewhere else in the EU. The overall population is falling because of the mortality rate in an aging population.

May's natural gas will be cheaper than April's

Bulgarian national gas supplier Bulgargaz is proposing that the price of natural gas in May be 6% cheaper compared to April. The company indicates that a megawatt hour can cost around 56 levs.

The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission will make the final decision on May 1. In the last couple of months Bulgaria's price has been higher than the TTF benchmark which is the most liquid in Europe.
