Radev attacks Constitutional Court's new members

President Rumen Radev has submitted an appeal to the Constitutional Court to declare as unconstitutional the election of two members as judges. Radev called on the newly elected judges - Desislava Atanasova (GERB MP) and Borislav Belazelkov (WCC-DB) - not to take the oath before the final ruling of his appeal.

Earlier today it emerged that the oath of the new members is scheduled for January 26 at 11 a.m. Meanwhile, lawyers asked parliament to cancel the election of Atanasova and Belazelkov, citing arguments similar to Radev's for allegedly not respecting the principles of transparency in the basic law.

According to Radev there is also a conscious attempt by the majority of MPs in Parliament to circumvent the decisions of the Constitutional Court regarding the term of office. Atanasova and Belazelkov were voted to serve in the court for 9 years, instead of 7.

Arrest warrant for KTB's Tsvetan Vassilev

Sofia City Court has formally granted the prosecutor's office permission to issue a European Arrest Warrant for the former majority owner of the bankrupt Corporate Commercial Bank (KTB), Tsvetan Vassilev, who has been hiding in Serbia for years.

This is a new European Arrest Warrant, the issuance of which is requested on two charges of money laundering.

The Sofia City Court accepts that there is no danger that Tsvetan Vassilev will commit another crime, but there is a risk that he will abscond. The court also explained its decision by the fact that he was accused of serious intentional crimes, for which the Criminal Code provides for 5 to 15 years in prison.
