Police raid Bozhkov's properties

Police raided lottery mogul Vassil Bozhkov's properties in Sofia this morning to carry out "urgent searches and seizures". Shortly afterwards the businessman was escorted by Ministry of Internal Affairs officials to a police station with his lawyer.

The prosecutor's office confirmed unofficially that the police action was related to pre-trial proceedings for last August's murder of Alexei Petrov, the founder of the largest Bulgarian insurer, Lev Ins, although there is no apparent link between the two men. But there was no official information as to whether Bozhkov was specifically being sought in connection with the murder, or if it was just part of a general investigation into Petrov's activities.

Bozhkov's lawyer, Georgi Gatev, explained that this is another investigation that started in 2023 and that police teams were looking for documents for 7 of Bozhkov's companies, but none were found. He denied that the investigation is in any way related to pre-trial proceedings over Petrov's shooting.

Parliament elects Atanasova and Belazelkov as constitutional judges

Parliament has elected two constitutional judges who will have a mandate of seven years. Desislava Atanasova and Borislav Belazelkov, nominated by GERB and WCC-DB respectively, were chosen for the post.

WCC-DB co-chairman Kiril Petkov defended the nomination of GERB's Atanasova."With this distribution of power in the parliament, each political party (GERB and WCC-DB) has two responsibilities - to put forward the candidates who are representative of its ideology, and to be careful not to admit candidates who are below the red line of eligibility. If the end result is that more people like Judge Belazelkov enter these institutions, I believe that Bulgaria will change," he said.

Nasekomo raises 8 million euros

Bulgaria's pioneer in biotechnology Nasekomo has raised 8 million euros to increase its production base in Lozen and open a second factory. The company was established in 2017 by the Bulgarian-French family of entrepreneurs Olga and Xavier Marsenak and biologist Mark Bolar.

It is still one of the few companies in Europe and the world that already has a working high-tech factory for bioconversion, where an alternative protein is produced by processing the larvae of the black soldier fly (Black soldier fly). And not only that - Nasekomo has an ambitious plan to build a franchise model and a network of such factories in Europe and the world, and thus be at the crest of the rising wave in this innovative niche.
