Greece, Bulgaria, Romania eye abolition of land border controls

WCC MP Daniel Lorer, together with Romanian and Greek MEPs, have proposed removing land border controls between Bulgaria, Greece and Romania in a joint request to the Greek Minister of Immigration and Asylum Dimitris Kairidis.

The bid was likely triggered after Bulgaria and Romania's admission to the "air and maritime Schengen" from the end of March, abolishing air and sea border controls with Schengen countries while leaving land ones intact.

Offshore wind kicks in

A draft law on energy from renewable sources in marine spaces, submitted by the MP's from GERB, WCC and MRF, was adopted by parliament on first reading with 112 votes in favor, 53 against and three abstentions.

The bill proposes that the Minister of Energy can conduct policy in favor of the planning, construction and operation of wind power plants in marine spaces.

The deadline for changes before the second reading is 28 days, as proposed by GERB MP Delyan Dobrev.

Bulgaria will store old nuclear fuel from Westinghouse

The Nuclear Regulatory Agency announced that it has granted Kozloduy NPP permission to store fresh RWFA nuclear fuel on its site. The fuel is produced by American company Westinghouse.

The scope of permitted activities includes only receiving and storing the cartridges in the fresh fuel node, the Nuclear Regulatory Agency specified. From there, they add that the operation of the RWFA cassettes of unit 5 will be possible after the completion of the started licensing process.

At the end of November 2023, the Nuclear Regulatory Agency received all necessary documents for issuing a permit to use the fuel from Westinghouse for Unit 5 of the Kozloduy NPP.
