WCC chooses Minchev for EP vote

WCC's executive board has unanimously chosen Nikola Minchev as leader of the party's list in the upcoming elections for the European Parliament, the party of Kiril Petkov and Assen Vassilev announced.

"We believe that the leader of the list for the European elections should be the person who will best represent Bulgaria in Europe. Nikola was a successful chairman of the Parliament," Vassilev announced.

It was also agreed that WCC would start talks over a coalition with Democratic Bulgaria in a bid to strengthen the social-democratic vote in the European elections.

Nexo seeks huge compensation

Crypto bank Nexo's claim against the Bulgarian state, filed on January 18, is for more than 3 billion dollars, the company announced.

The case was filed because of the "significant material and reputational damage" it sustained in connection with the action of the prosecutor's office, the State Agency for National Security (DANS) and the national investigation a year ago.

On December 21, 2023, the prosecutor's office closed the investigation against Nexo, concluding that "no crimes were committed" and terminated criminal proceedings against the company's managers - Kosta Kanchev, Antoni Trenchev, Kalin Metodiev and Trayan Nikolov.

Key financing for Romania bridge

Bulgaria has secured EU financing for a major infrastructure project that will link the country by bridge to Romania from the Connecting Europe Facility military line - the main funding tool for the trans-European transport network.

On Wednesday, the European Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and the Environment announced 7 million euros for feasibility studies and a project to construct a new railway and road bridge over the Danube River at Giurgiu-Ruse (Romanian-Bulgarian border) with access enabled from both sides.
