EPC tender announced by Kozloduy

The management of the newly formed Kozloduy nuclear plant subsidiary, represented by recently appointed Petyo Ivanov, has announced a tender procedure to select an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the new reactors.

After selecting Westinghouse as the supplier of the equipment and the engineering study, it is now time to select the main builder of the entire infrastructure around the reactors.

According to the tender description, the plan is for the project, at least for block 7, to be implemented by 2035. The two reactors will likely cost at least 20 billion leva.

Largest economic sectors in 2022

Electricity production was the sector with the largest share of the economy in 2022 (8.72%), according to the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce (BCC). This was closely followed by IT (8.36%). In third place, but well behind the first two, was grain production (3.65%).

The top 3 would probably have been different if you factor in the sharp increase in electricity and grain prices over the course of 2022 due to the war in Ukraine.

The BCC analysis also shows that, in total, services generated about 57% of the value in the country against 35% for industry.

Bulgarian crypto bank Nexo has filed a lawsuit against Bulgaria in an international arbitration court in the USA, investigative website Bird announced.

The Bulgarian prosecutor's office recently announced that it had dropped its investigation into the cryptocurrency-based financial services and products company because it did not find sufficient evidence of a crime.

In December 2023 - almost a year after the action of the state prosecution, National Agency of National Security and the National Investigation Service, it turned out that the investigation, despite the initial furore, would not reach court at all.
