Mining solar moratorium

Parliament's energy commission has unanimously decided to impose a moratorium on the leasing of the areas of the Maritsa-East coal mining complex for the construction of solar parks after a proposal from Vazrazhdane.

The decision is yet to be confirmed in parliament. The huge state lands of Mini Maritsa-East have been repeatedly identified as the most suitable place for solar investments - there is an established electricity transmission infrastructure, the lands are not suitable for anything else and there are large electricity consumers nearby.

The problem is that if investments in new RES capacities do not happen transparently in the mining area, corruption might erupt.

Ukraine has to wait until war ends for NATO entry, says Denkov

Prime minister Nikolay Denkov has stated that there is a clear prospect that Ukraine will become a NATO member but that the relevant conditions must be in place.

"As long as Ukraine is in a state of war with a neighboring country, it cannot be accepted, but the conditions under which it will be accepted will be clear," he said at a NATO forum in Vilnius.

Denkov's comments came after last week's visit to Sofia by Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelensky. Also, in an interview with Sky News, Denkov declined to say whether he approved of supplying cluster bombs to Ukraine, describing it as a "military question".

NHIF governorship sparks tension

Today the MP's had to vote for the governor of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF); however, Ivanka Dineva, who was nominated by GERB, suddenly withdrew from the procedure due to personal reasons. The NHIF is one of the most important funds in the country.

Issues with Dineva's CV provoked the coalition WCC-DB not to fall behind her candidacy.

Vladislav Panev, deputy chairman of the parliamentary group of the WCC-DB, told bTV that he doubts Ivanka Dineva will be GERB's final candidate for the governor of the NHIF on account of her disciplinary background. Dineva has been fired from several hospitals.
