Parliament finally votes for new commission leaders

MP's have finally managed to determine the leaders of parliamentary commissions four months after the new parliament's first sitting. The largest grouping GERB receives the most - 14, followed by DPS with 5 chairmen and WCC-DB - with two.

Vazrazhdane, BSP and TSP left the plenary hall before the start of voting because they felt excluded from the entire process. The three parties were to get only one leadership seat each. In the end, three committees were again left without permanent chairpersons.

The key constitutional commission, which was also left without a chairman after it was formed, was headed by GERB's Radomir Cholakov. It will be his task to move constitutional reform forward.

Nikolay Nankov became the chairman of the regional commission, Delyan Dobrev for energy, and Hristo Gadjev for defense.

Personnel carriers proposed for Ukraine

MP Ivaylo Mirchev from WCC-DB has announced that the coalition has a draft resolution to provide about 100 armored personnel carriers (APCs) to Ukraine from the Interior Ministry. This, it was emphasized, would not affect army reserves or disrupt its combat capability.

Mirchev claims that the initiative is supported by Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov, the Ministers of Internal Affairs and Defense, the parliamentary groups of GERB and DPS, the chairman of the parliamentary committee on defense and GERB leader Boyko Borissov.

New local governors

The government has appointed six new regional governors who will be responsible for the cities of Sofia, Plovdiv, Lovech, Pleven, Dobrich and Silistra.

Local governors are the people representing the executive branch in the different regions; so far they had been voted through by President Radev's caretaker cabinet.

The new representatives of the state in these regions were elected by the new coalition of WCC-DB and GERB.
