Bulgarian mafia kingpin will receive 1.25 million levs per month

An entity related to Hristoforos Amanatidis-Taki, a Dubai-based Bulgarian mafia tycoon previously wanted for drug trafficking, will receive 45 million levs for the next 3 years from the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency. The sum, as disclosed by the former Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ivan Hristanov to BNR, is earmarked for the disposal of animal waste.

"Employees will do some bureaucracy and Taki will receive 1.25 million lev every month guaranteed." said Hristanov with some irony but without giving more details in a reference to what many will perceive to be yet another example of corruption.

A check by Dnevnik shows that only one company submitted documents for the four positions of public procurement - IDDD Logistics.

WCC-DB sets up Turkstream commission

WCC-DB has submitted a draft decision to create a temporary parliamentary commission to investigate the circumstances surrounding the missing roadmap for the Turkstream project. For years, the roadmap has not been made public by representatives of GERB.

Recently, the roadmap was published with the help of the Bulgarian online community of cyber security and anti-disinformation experts "the elves". The documents were obtained from the mail of Yevgeny Zobnin, who officially holds only the position of assistant to Russian politician Alexander Babakov.

Tourism spikes in February

The number of Bulgarians travelling abroad increased by 7% in February, the National Statistical Institute announced.

In the past month nearly 138,000 people traveled abroad for vacation and excursion purposes, compared to 128,500 a year earlier.The most desirable tourist destinations are Bulgaria's neighboring countries - Greece, visited by 31.1 thousand Bulgarians, followed by Turkey - 19.3 thousand, Romania - 12 thousand, and North Macedonia - 11 thousand.

There were 273,000 tourist trips by foreigners to Bulgaria in February, an increase of 12 percent on 12 months earlier. Most guests hailed from Turkey - 42.6 thousand tourists, followed by Romanians - 37.3 thousand, Greeks - 36.8 thousand, and Great Britain - 32.7 thousand.
