Prison officials stage demonstration

Prison employees protested in front of the building of the General Directorate for the Execution of Punishments today, demanding a change of working practices and wage increases.

Protesters also demanded the resignation of the director of the Main Directorate "Execution of Punishments" Ivaylo Yordanov because of a dismissed colleague. They argue that Emil Velkov was fired for his role in their last protest, which was on May 12. They indicate that pressure was exerted against those participating in the demonstrations.

The director of the directorate, Ivaylo Yordanov, claims that over the years, the dismissed employee has been subject to several disciplinary punishments - for playing chess with prisoners, for not carrying a weapon and for leaving the workplace.

BGN 933 minimum wage in 2024 despite business objections

Business - perhaps unsurprisingly - has declared its opposition to a proposed increase in the minimum wage by almost 20% to BGN 933 from the beginning of next year.

However, social partners have little say because from now on, the minimum wage is to be determined once a year almost automatically - according to a formula laid down in the Labor Code. Therefore, its increase from January 1, 2024 seems almost certain - it remains only to receive formal approval from the government.

Latecoere's Plovdiv aircraft factory scores Boeing order

Plovdiv's Latecoere factory plant has now acquired more significance for the aviation parts manufacturer, after the French company completely transferred the assembly of aircraft doors for the European market from the Czech Republic to Bulgaria.

In addition to the front doors for the Airbus A320, which is the group's main customer, since July the local plant has also taken over the assembly of rear doors, moving the entire program to the country. Latecoere Bulgaria is now the main manufacturer in Europe in this line and plans are afoot to double its current production capacity.
