Bulgaria is one step away from creating a new Ministry for digitalization and e-governance. The parliament voted today to close the current State Agency "Electronic Government" in order to establish the ministry. It will be headed by e-government minister Bozhidar Bojankov.

Bulgaria's GDP rises to 4.5% y-y in Q4 of 2021

Bulgaria's GDP increased by 4.5% in the last quarter of 2021 on an annual basis, reported the National Statistics Institute. This is up 1% compared to the third quarter of 2021, according to seasonally adjusted data.

More money from the budget for science and police

The government is willing to give more money to almost all the institutions who have threatened it with protests - the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, museum workers, farmers and taxis.

These are the proposals submitted to parliament for changes between the two readings of the State Budget Act for 2022. The Ministry of the Interior and also firefighters will also receive more. Lubomir Karimanski (TSP), the chairman of the Budget commission, said that parliament was also considering the police union's request for a 20% increase in their basic salaries.

United Group's planned majority stake in Telelink aborted

Telecom provider United Group has abandoned a planned deal to acquire a majority stake of 51% in the Bulgarian telecommunication company Telelink Business Services Group, the Bulgarian Stock Exchange (BSE) revealed in a statement. The executive director of Telelink Business Services Group Ivan Zhitiyanov told Capital Weekly that despite the deal's failure, the group still plans to change its majority owner.
