A new poll conducted by Bulgaria's third-largest agency publishing electoral views - Trend, shows a small lead of about 1.5 percentage points for GERB compared to showman Slavi Trifonov's party There Is Such a People which comes in second. However, the difference between the two political entities is now so small that it falls within the margin of statistical error.

GERB still in narrow lead

Even after months of scandal, Trend results still show GERB in the lead in the run-up to the July 11 elections with 21.7% of the votes, followed by There Is Such a People with 20.2% and BSP with 16.1%. The poll was conducted among 1000 people during the period 11-18 June. Overall, all polls conducted so far show that the next parliament will be fragmented and very similar to the short-lived one that followed the April 4 elections.

Melexis Bulgaria to open new €75m chip plant

Chip and automobile sensors manufacturer Melexis Bulgaria, part of the Belgian group Melexis, has decided to open a new plant on the outskirts of Sofia - in Gorublyane, in September. The 75 million euro investment aims to increase chip production at a time of global shortages in the automotive sector. It will create 160 new jobs, bringing the company's total in Bulgaria to 660 employees.

Varna has plans to build a light rail line

Today, local authorities in Varna showed the public their latest plans for the construction of a light rail line from the airport to the Golden Sands tourist resort. The project is very ambitious, with neither a clear deadline in sight nor funding secured yet because it's in the initial stages of planning. It's divided into 7 parts, connecting Varna Airport, a future industrial zone nearby, the city center and central railway station, the Golden Sands resort to the north, and others.
