Parliamentary and European elections to cost 98 million levs

The caretaker government has approved the budget plan for expenses related to the parliamentary and European elections on June 9, with approved funds amounting to more than 98 million levs.

The activities to be financed with these funds include: printing of electoral lists; preparation of necessary election books and materials; logistical support for various administrations; remuneration for members of municipal and precinct election commissions; facilitating voting abroad; security provided by the Ministry of Interior and conducting an informational campaign about citizens' rights and obligations. Funds will go towards voting procedures, training for members of precinct election commissions, activities related to video surveillance and recording of the electoral process; organizing polling stations, and more.

Bulgarians will be voting in a national election for the sixth time in just over three years.when they cast their ballot on June 9.

Bulgaria's judicial system improves, report finds

Bulgaria is among just five out of 29 countries to have recorded an improved perception of its judicial system, according to the annual Nations in Transit report by the American foundation Freedom House.

Countries are assessed on a scale from 1 (authoritarian regime) to 7 (consolidated democracy) across various categories of democratic life. The observed categories include national democratic governance (national institutions); elections; civil society; media; local institutions; judicial system; and anti-corruption efforts.

With a score of 4.54 out of 7 possible points, Bulgaria is one of only five countries showing improved positions in the report. The others are Lithuania, Romania, Slovenia, and Ukraine.

Sofia kicks off traditional TABIET festival

From today until April 14, Bratska Mogila Park in the Sofia neighborhood of Orlandovtsi is hosting the traditional TABIET festival, held since 2018. For four days, organizers promise music and food from traditional Bulgarian cuisine, along with gourmet street food offerings. Chefs will demonstrate their interpretations of dishes from Balkan cuisine.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to enjoy performances by popular artists from Bulgaria, Greece, and Serbia. For guests with children, there will be a funfair, children's attractions, and various tournaments and games available.
