Huge cocaine quantities found in Burgas

A giant cocaine haul found on Monday at the port in Burgas was worth 6.8 million dollars, announced the prosecutor's office. According to market prices from the district prosecutors, a kilogram of cocaine trades for $40,000. No one has yet been arrested.

The drug, discovered in a container loaded with bananas, is the largest seized amount in the history of the port of Burgas. A total of 170 kg were found, divided into 150 packages. The importer of the fruits is a Bulgarian trading company.

The container is part of a cargo that arrived from the port of Ecuador with the container ship Madison 2 that traveled on the route Ecuador - Panama - Malta - Gioia Tauro - Burgas.

Petkov blames GERB's unwillingness to instigate reform

Co-chairman of WCC and ex-prime minister Kiril Petkov revealed that the last proposal before GERB left the negotiations table for forming a government was a rotation of the prime minister (with Mariya Gabriel) and the signing of an agreement on reforms. He recalled that on March 17, Gabriel had offered him the same, but without an agreement on indispensable legal and regulatory reforms.

"It is clear to us that GERB is not ready for reforms in the judicial system, the secret services and in the regulators," said Petkov.

He announced that the parties within the WCC-DB will now have national meetings to decide what to do with the second mandate. It remains very likely that after debates in parliament today Bulgaria will be formally heading towards elections.

House price growth slows

The decline in real estate transactions, which has been trending for 18 months, is gradually reflected in the slower rate of house price growth. In 2022 the increase varied between 11.5% and 15.6% on an annual basis, but in 2023 it fell to between 9.2% and 10.7%. In the fourth quarter of 2023, despite the trend of calming prices, housing was still 10.1% more expensive than in the same period of 2022.

The growth in housing prices was only 1.2% in the fourth quarter of 2023 over the third quarter. However, this does not necessarily translate into a guaranteed decline. In October-December 2022, the increase compared to July-September was even less (0.4%). This was followed by unusually weak growth (1.6%) in the first quarter of 2023. But in the spring (April-June) prices caught up, jumping 4.3%. Since then - from the middle of 2023, their growth compared to the previous quarter has been slowing down.
