Sofia Municipality ends deadlock over chairman
After nearly three months the Metropolitan Municipal Council has elected a chairman, namely the municipal councilor from the largest party on the council - WCC-DB-SS, Tsvetomir Petrov. This ends the crisis that blocked the work of the municipal council and even threatened to trigger fresh elections due to the impossibility of the council starting work.
Petrov was temporarily elected to the position for a period of six months until the summer vacation of the municipal councilors.
The election was in the form of a secret ballot but apparently Petrov received support from GERB, BSP, Vazrazhdane and Sinya Sofia.
FIB shares rise after settlement
The debt war that broke out in recent weeks between First Investment Bank (FIB) and one of its biggest debtors, the collectors SG Group, is set to end. The bankruptcy petitions, moving in parallel in Sofia and Stara Zagora, have been withdrawn after the two sides reached an agreement.
After that, FIB's shares rose on the BSE rose by 23% to 2.86 levs. Thus, they largely reversed the decline that saw them plunge to 3.10-3.20 levs, after last week Kapital announced the conflict over unserviced liabilities to the tune of about 300 million levs.
According to inside information, it is not about repayment, but about renegotiation, by rescheduling the maturing obligations (30 million levs) on the principal of the bonds of S.G. Group by about a year.
Haskovo breaks temperature records
The southern city of Haskovo broke temperature records for February for the third consecutive day. In the afternoon, the local meteorological station recorded 19.6 degrees, which is the highest value recorded in the last 90 years, since professional weather monitoring started. The heat wave, which is also setting records in other cities, is expected to continue for the first half of February.
The previous warmest temperature to date was on February 7, 1966, when 18.0 degrees were measured. Yesterday in the southern regional center it was 23.8 degrees, and on Monday - 21.3 degrees.
