WCC hires lobbyists to improve BG-US relations

WCC (We Continue the Change) hired lobbyists in the US at the very end of 2023 to represent them to the US authorities, states the lobbyist registry under the Foreign Agents Act.

The contract was signed by the co-chairman of the party Assen Vassilev. The name of the firm is Manatos & Manatos (M&M), and the contract for lobbying activity until February 29, 2024 is worth $100,000. The first installment of $50,000 has already been paid, the second should be transferred by the end of January.

The tasks of the company, as listed by WCC, are to:

  • Promote a number of aspects of bilateral relations between the USA and Bulgaria to influential American politicians;
  • Assist in securing meetings with the highest-ranking US politicians in the US administration and Congress;
  • Analyze US policy on important issues for Bulgaria.

BG-ALERT system will be used to find missing children

The Ministry of the Interior has published a draft of the Ordinance on the procedure for the construction and use of the BG-ALERT system for the distribution of warning messages to the population via phone.

The system, which is used throughout the European Union, will be used to disseminate public warning messages for natural disasters, man-made disasters or emergencies, and minors who have been declared missing and require a nationwide search.

The regulation states that the system will have several types of messages. These are: EU-Alert level 1 - Alert messages with the highest priority; EU-Alert level 2 - Alert messages; EU-Alert level 3 - Information messages; EU-Amber - Missing person messages as well as EU-Monthly Test - Test specific message.

The most popular baby names

Bulgarians tend to stick to tradition - the most popular names among babies and adults continue to be Georgi and Maria. Georgi was the most common male name in Bulgaria last year, with 143,185 people using it. The second most popular name is Ivan - 130,551 people, and 104,856 Bulgarians with the name Dimitar. Among women, the most popular name continues to be Maria (102,050), followed by Ivanka (48,639) and Elena (47,918).

Last year, most newborn boys were named Alexander - 828 babies. 822 boys were named Georgi, and 611 - Kaloyan. The most common girls' names are Victoria - 589 newborns, followed by Maria (537 girls) and Sofia - 480 newborns.
