Stryker armored fighting vehicles

Defense Minister Todor Tagarev has said there are no major issues connected to the government's decision last week to buy 183 US Stryker armored fighting vehicles (AFVs). This follows GERB chairman Boyko Borissov's statement last week that the government went ahead with the purchase without consultations in parliament.

Tagarev guaranteed that the Ministry of Defense and the Council of Ministers acted as quickly as possible. He recalled that the project for the purchase of the AFVs is currently in parliament, and had passed through the two commissions - the defense and the budget and finance.

Pensions will increase

Pensions will increase by about 11% from July 1 next year, according to estimates from the Ministry of Finance. In the middle of this year, they were raised by 12%.

The update is laid down in the Social Security Code. According to its provisions, pensions granted until December 31 of the previous year are updated annually from July 1 with a percentage equal to the sum of 50% of the increase in the insurance income and 50% of the consumer price index in the previous year.

Karadayi resigns as MRF leader

Mustafa Karadayi has resigned as chairman of the MRF, the pro-Turkish party that plays an essential role in the current cabinet. The news broke today and his party has yet to make an official statement.

The reasons for Karadayi's surprise move, which was predicted by many of his fellow party members, are not clear. The honorary chairman of MRF, Ahmed Dogan, will now take over until a new leader is elected.

Rumors have been circulating about the next leader, some pointing even at the Magnitsky-sanctioned Delyan Peevski.
