Weapons factory explosion could be sabotage

Sunday's explosion in a private military factory near Karnobat is suspicious and the possibility of sabotage cannot be ruled out, said Economy Minister Bogdan Bogdanov. He made the statement alongside representatives from the defense ministry and the state intelligence agency.

The explosion in an ammunition warehouse sparked inspections on the order of Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov. The owner of the site, Emilian Gebrev, has already announced that it is probably a matter of "deliberate actions", while the use of the word "raid" by the minister would also seem to indicate a suspicion of possible sabotage.

New mega solar park

The new Verila solar park, 123 megawatts, is now officially part of the grid and should contribute 170,000 MWh per year. This would increase the solar energy output in the country by 10%, while the overall growth will be even greater due to other major solar projects soon to be fired up.

According to the latest data in May, the share of solar energy in total production was about 10%.

The Verila plant, just south of Sofia, was built in two parallel stages. The contractor, German company Sunotech, managed to build the park in 9 months, and it is currently 99% ready. There are 222,000 panels in total, all purchased by the large Chinese concern Jinko Solar.

Radev's protest about Macedonia

President Rumen Radev has complained about the ongoing attitude of North Macedonia towards Bulgaria in an official letter to EU leaders. He states that the solution reached in 2022 and the veto withdrawal from Bulgaria (regarding North Macedonia's EU accession) has not led to any positive developments but has instead ratcheted up tensions.

"Instead of working for the fulfillment of the conditions of its agreement with the EU, Skopje is betting again on active lobbying to cover up the lack of political will to achieve the membership criteria. The attacks and the language of hatred against Bulgaria are intensifying and physical crimes are also becoming more frequent," said Radev.
