Finance ministry expects 480.6 mln euro budget surplus at end-Jan

Bulgaria's consolidated budget is expected to record a surplus of 940 million levs (480.6 million euro) as of the end of January, which is 0.7% of the projected GDP for the year, according to preliminary data from the finance ministry. At the end of 2021, Bulgaria's consolidated budget recorded a deficit of 3.9 million levs (or 3.0% of projected GDP for the year). Now the government has submitted to parliament the 2022 draft budget envisaging a deficit equivalent to 2.5% of the forecast gross domestic product (GDP), without including expenditure on coronavirus measures. If expenditure on the virus is included, the deficit will be equivalent to 4.1% of planned GDP.

Bulgaria to have e-ministry

Deputies from almost all parliamentary groups (except Vazrahdane) have approved the idea of creating a new ministry for digitalization and e-government. The State Agency for E-Government will be closed and will transfer its responsibilities to the new ministry. The minister for e-government, Bozhidar Bojanov, said that the ministry should start functioning fully within three months after the vote on the new law is passed in the National Assembly.
