UK-based educational software provider Juniper Education has acquired a 100% stake in Bulgaria's educational management platform Shkolo. The two companies have a similar line of business: Juniper Education is the largest provider of education solutions in the UK; Shkolo is used by more than 1,700 educational institutions in Bulgaria. The price of the transaction was not disclosed.

Independently

"Regardless of the acquisition, Shkolo will continue to operate independently," Lyubomir Vanyov, co-founder and manager of the platform, told the Capital Weekly. More information will be available in the next few months but what is known for now is that the Bulgarian team will expand. Currently the company employs some 70 people, 40 of them full-time. It said its revenue was a touch above 3 million levs (1.5 million euro) in 2023.

Shkolo was founded in 2016 with a focus on enhancing the efficiency of schools. Co-owners of the company before the deal were six individuals, including Vanyov with 32.4% of the capital.

"Shkolo's clients in Bulgaria will continue to receive the same level of support and innovation they have been used to and expect from the company's team," Vanyov said. "Shkolo is a market leader in Bulgaria in the field of software solutions for school digitalization and it is also at an excellent European level. Therefore international markets are the next logical step in its development," he added.

British interest

In Vanyov's words, Shkolo's mission is to help teachers and school masters spend more time on their work with children and less on administration. That "fits perfectly" into the services Juniper offers in the UK.

"Shkolo is a particularly significant part of Juniper's comprehensive range of software products, complementing our leading technology solutions, which are the choice of over 50% of UK schools. Shkolo's joining is a unique opportunity to create a wide range of education-focused services that provide an end-to-end solution for managing all school processes," Juniper Education CEO Chris Scarth said in a press release.
