Denkov Cabinet Cites Achievements

During a two-hour press conference Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and Deputy Prime Minister Mariya Gabriel cited the government's accomplishments over the first 9 months of its tenure.

In their words, 56% of the management program has been implemented, some of it even ahead of schedule. They added that with a "tight and proper transition" within the next 9 months, if the rotation is successful, the management program can be implemented in full.

The two used the occasion to publicly thank each other for their collaboration. Denkov specifically expressed satisfaction that Gabriel would lead the GERB negotiating team in the upcoming Saturday and Sunday talks on the rotation, claiming Gabriel was key to immediately addressing controversial issues.

Kristalina Georgieva To Run For IMF Director Again

The EU will support Kristalina Georgieva for a second term as managing director of the IMF, after it became clear earlier today that she is interested in continuing.

The Financial Times reported that EU finance ministers are expected to voice their support for Georgieva at a meeting in Brussels on Tuesday. European support is key to getting the job, as the head of the IMF has historically been a European, while the World Bank is traditionally headed by an American.

In an interview with Reuters, Georgieva said she would be honored to serve a second five-year term at the helm of the global lender and was assured she had strong support among European members of the IMF and beyond. Her term ends on September 30.

Bulgaria Is EU's Most Dangerous Country For Driving

The death rate in road traffic accidents is highest in Bulgaria among all EU states, the European Commission announced today, publishing preliminary data for 2023.

Bulgaria overtakes last year's leader of black statistics - Romania, with 82 road accident deaths per one million inhabitants. This is a serious deterioration compared to 2022, when road fatalities in Bulgaria were 78 per 1 million.

For comparison - in Greece last year, road casualties were 60 per 1 million inhabitants, a decrease compared to the previous year, when there were 63/1 mil.
