Political Pressures Lead To New Chief Editor At Biggest TV Channel

Just two days after the management of Nova TV was suddenly replaced, another private national TV broadcaster, bTV, also found itself with a new chief news editor. On Friday, management reported that Veselina Petrakieva had resigned, to be replaced by Assen Ivanov with immediate effect. He is her former deputy and former executive producer of the bankrupt TV7.

The reshuffles in the two large private television stations are not disconnected from politics because in both media the changes affect the directorates that manage the news content. In the case of bTV, Ivanov has a direct connection with the notorious KTB bank-financed television station TV7, which was close to Delyan Peevski and Tsvetan Vassilev.

Hyundai Will Be EPC Contractor

Parliament adopted a decision to award the EPC contract for the two new nuclear reactors in Kozloduy to one specific company - the Korean Hyundai. The vote passed by just 1 vote and without the support of WCC-DB and with a reduced quorum due to three Vazrazhdane MPs.

WCC-DB had submitted a counter-proposal, according to which parliament obliges the new company NPP Kozloduy Novi Moschnosti to negotiate with one more company - the American Bechtel.

Judge Threatened Again

Judge Vladislava Tsarigradska, Court of Appeal, who announced that she was threatened by Martin Bojanov, "the Notary", who was murdered on January 31, has revealed that she received another threat by email yesterday. The Notary was rumored to be one of the main actors in the judicial and prosecution systems and some sources claim that his influence could be traced to GERB and MRF.

During her hearing in parliament to establish the facts surrounding the notary's activities, she said she was warned that "if she does not shut up, her husband and children are going to end up at the bottom of a dam". She did not specify who the sender was but added that she filed a report with the Interior Ministry.

Tsarigradska said previous threats were made against her at the beginning of the week.
