GERB backs Atanasova despite criticism

The former chairperson of the GERB parliamentary group, Desislava Atanasova, is the party's nominee for constitutional judge in the Constitutional Court. Meanwhile, party leader Boyko Borissov takes her place at the head of the group in parliament.

Her suitability for the high profile judicial role is, however, strongly questioned by many experts given that Atanasova, who used to be a health minister in one of GERB's cabinets, has no experience in the private sector and is considered to be a political candidate.

November trade balance bleak

New data shows that in the period January - November 2023, goods with a total value of 80.1 billion levs were exported from Bulgaria, which is down 7.1% compared to the same period in 2022. Only in November did exports shrink faster than imports. The total value of goods exported from Bulgaria was 7 billion levs, 18% below the level in November 2022. Imports amount to 8.6 billion levs, which is 10.3% less on an annual basis.

The heads of the three special services assessed the risks of escalating tensions in the region, and also the threats posed to the state in the light of the recent hijacking of the ships Galaxy Leader and Rouen ships which had Bulgarian crew members.
