Pirates suspected of seizing Ruen

Ruen, a ship sailing under the Maltese flag, but managed by the Bulgarian Navy Shipping Company AD, likely fell victim to hijackers yesterday. It was last seen on the high seas sailing towards Somalia at 13:17 Bulgarian time on Thursday, according to LSEG vessel tracking data.

Earlier on Friday, Britain's shipping agency UKMTO said it had received a message from a ship security officer who believed the crew was no longer in control of the Ruen, which was currently headed for Somalia.

The European Union's anti-piracy force in Somalia reported that a Spanish navy ship was sailing at full speed towards the merchant ship "to obtain more information and assess next steps," the statement said.

If confirmed, it would be the first hijacking involving Somali pirates in years, after international maritime forces' anti-piracy efforts appeared to have thwarted similar ship seizures.

2.2 billion levs in fuel exports this year

Fuel worth about 2.2 billion levs was exported between January and the end of August, data from the National Statistical Institute data shows. Most is made up of gasoline under the export quota, diesel sold to Ukraine, and fuel oil outside the prohibited list.

The predominant part of fuel exports from the country is A95 gasoline. A total of 998 cubic meters were exported from it, which accounts for sales of 1.155 billion levs.

Diesel comes second at around 521 million levs, sold to Ukraine. Exporters in this market are mainly local players in the wholesale market, and warehouse owners who bought raw material mainly from the refinery. Not all of the exported diesel is produced by the Lukoil Neftohim refinery. Georgi Samuilov's Insa Oil, for example, has, since the beginning of the war, independently imported fuels from Russia - diesel and gas oil, and after desulfurizing the gas oil in its installation in Belozem, exported it to Ukraine as diesel, the industry explains.

A minimum 10% reduction in the prices of some basic foods, and in some cases up to 40%, has been registered by the Ministry of Economy and Industry in the one month that the state-led 'Affordable for You' initiative has been operating.

The price of oil, rice and oranges is up to 40% lower. In the case of cheese and yellow cheese, also included in the initiative, the reduction reaches 22%. Among other best-priced products are eggs, beans, chicken and yogurt.
