Natural gas to rise by 6.5% in December

The price of natural gas has increased by 6.5% - from 82.12/MWh levs in November to 87.50/MWh levs in December, the Commission for Energy and Water Regulation announced. The regulator added that it continues to be lower than the price of the European gas markets for the last month of the year.

The December mix includes the entire agreed amount of the cheaper Azeri natural gas delivered via the Interconnector between Bulgaria and Greece (IGB) under contract with Azerbaijan. These quantities cover 31.76% of the consumption for the month and are of key importance in achieving favorable prices for the fuel, the Commission emphasized.

USA: Terrorists use Bulgarian networks for trafficking

The threat of terrorism in Bulgaria remains low, but foreign terrorist groups are exploiting Bulgaria's illegal smuggling and trafficking networks in a bid to bring terrorists from the Middle East and South Asia into Europe.

This is, in short, the assessment of Bulgaria in the annual report on terrorism in 2022, published by the US Bureau of Combating Terrorism at the Department of Justice in Washington.

In it, Bulgaria is defined as "a strong partner of the USA in the fight against terrorism", but the text also states that "gaps in the capacity of Bulgarian authorities continue to hinder the overall effectiveness" of their actions. The document explains that a large part of the "known or suspected terrorists" identified through biometric checks were stopped not at the Bulgarian border, but in the interior.
