Bulgarians can now leave Gaza at Rafah crossing

Hamas announced that citizens of Bulgaria, along with seven other countries, can now leave the Gaza Strip. This is indicated by a document including their passport numbers, which was published on the Facebook page of the Border Traffic Service.

The Rafah border crossing opened earlier today. The measure (the result of Israel-Egypt-Hamas talks brokered by Qatar and coordinated with the United States) is for temporary evacuation only and appears to cover foreigners and severely injured Palestinians.

There are 19 names of Bulgarians with dual citizenship, of which 17 have Bulgarian passports in the document. Another 18 are recorded with Palestinian IDs and only as Palestinian citizens. Some even have phone numbers listed. The total number of people, 37, corresponds to the number announced by the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

State to sue over property of the Russian Church

The prosecutor's office is proposing that the state file a lawsuit to protect its ownership of the Sofia Russian Church, as well as the plot of land on which it was built, as announced at a briefing today by Viktor Malinov, head of the Legality Supervision Department at the Supreme Administrative Prosecutor's Office.

An inspection by the prosecutor's office found that the Bulgarian state is the owner of the temple despite the notarial deed issued in 1997 in favor of Russia. It was drawn up at the request of the ambassador of Russia on the basis of a serf deed dated November 7, 1898.

The prosecutor's office searched for this deed in the State Archives, as it is understood that the local government in Sofia donated a yard to the Russian diplomatic agency. However, no evidence has been found for such a transfer.

Base interest rate increases

The Bulgarian National Bank BNB announced that from today - November 1, 2023, the base interest rate (simple annual interest) is 3.79 percent. Its previous value, announced in September, was 3.64%, and at the beginning of the year - 1.42%.

The amount of the basic interest rate depends on what the penalty interest will be for late payment. As a rule, it is 10 percentage points above the main interest rate. This means that delayed debts will be paid with a surcharge of 13.79 percent.
