Runoff next Sunday, possibly with machine votes

About 36 hours after election day, the Central Election Commission announced the final results in Sofia. With all ballots counted, Vassil Terziev (WCC-DB), who won 31.8% of the vote, and Vanya Grigorova (BSP), who won 21.8%, will head to the runoff next Sunday.

Meanwhile, after a long silence, GERB leader Boyko Borissov called on supporters to vote for Grigorova in the runoff against Terziev. Bearing in mind that the party's candidate Anton Hekimyan won 17.8%, this could make for a tight finish on November 5.

In the second round, machine voting will most likely also be possible, after the Supreme Administrative Court (SAC) decided on Monday evening to re-introduce it. However, the decision must be taken by the Central Electoral Commission, whose chairwoman Kamelia Neikova commented after the Supreme Court's decision that in order to have machine voting in the second round, the certification procedure for the machines must be completed.

Seven parties in Metropolitan Municipal Council

GERB-SDS mandates are slashed by half at 14, while BSP and Vazrazhdane will have 9 and 8 municipal councilors respectively. Trifonov's TISP will have 3 representatives, as will local coalition Blue Sofia. VMRO will only be represented by 1 municipal councilor.

Botev Plovdiv accepts crypto payments

Football team Botev (Plovdiv) will now be accepting Bitcoin payments. This will enable fans to use Bitcoin in the club's fan shops, for catering during matches and soon for its online store and tickets.

As an incentive for fans and the Bitcoin community in Bulgaria, the club is offering a 10% discount on all products purchased with Bitcoin in November, it announced today.

This is yet another step for the local cryptoscene, after one of the major football teams Levski launched its NFT collection last year.
