Gas deal probed between Bulgaria and Turkey

The European Commission (EC) is investigating the deal between Bulgarian gas operator Bulgargaz and Turkish energy company BOTAS over possible violations of EU competition rules, the ICIS portal reports.

The chairman of the parliamentary energy committee, Delyan Dobrev, confirmed that there is such an investigation. However, he specified that, according to his information, it started several months ago.

The investigation arose after suspicions that Bulgargaz may be the only company in the EU that has access to natural gas through the Turkish infrastructure. Thus, it can act as the only intermediary for the supply of Turkish natural gas to the region.

Each country's overall mortality ranking has not changed significantly since the pre-pandemic period. Sweden (22 deaths per million inhabitants) and Denmark (with 26) had the fewest road deaths, while Romania (86) and Bulgaria (78) reported the highest death rates in 2022. The EU average in 2022 was 46 road deaths per one million inhabitants.
