37 Bulgarians seeking evacuation from Gaza

Minister of Foreign Affairs MariYa Gabriel announced today that 37 Bulgarians and members of their families have sought assistance for evacuation from the Gaza Strip. She specified that, together with partner countries, a way is being sought but evacuation is currently impossible because all border crossings are closed.

The list of Bulgarians and their relatives who wish to be evacuated has been handed over to the Israeli and Egyptian authorities. They must give permission for their removal.

BGN 63 million for agricultural producers

The Council of Ministers has approved the allocation of BGN 63.5 million as assistance to agricultural producers, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov announced today.

The funds are mainly directed towards small farmers and are in fulfillment of the agreement signed with the farmers during recent protests. BGN 47.5 million of the total amount is to support farmers under the de minimis program. BGN 16 million will go to farmers using irrigation where the amount is said to cover over 80% of the cost of the water used.

State floats affordable goods scheme for essentials

The Ministry of Economy will propose an Affordable for Everyone initiative in the coming days, announced Minister of Economy Bogdan Bogdanov at an event of the Association for Modern Trade.

The scheme proposes that each week grocery store chains will decide to participate and offer food at the lowest possible price for certain vital commodities such as fresh fruit and vegetables, fats, dairy and meat products and others, which Bogdanov described as essential for the small consumer's basket.

Bogdanov added that unlike previous attempts to charge retail chains to sell products below a certain price or to have a ceiling on markups, this initiative is voluntary, because he is "a supporter of the market economy and free competition".
