Bulgaria not in contact with some of its citizens in Gaza

Some Bulgarian nationals are believed to be in Gaza without any current possibility for evacuation and there is no contact with some of them, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov announced today.

"Bulgaria alone cannot organize a humanitarian corridor. This will be part of a joint effort of foreigners and residents who are there. It participates very actively as part of European efforts," said Denkov.

The MFA has announced that it is in contact with its diplomatic representatives in Tel Aviv, Cairo and Ramallah, as well as in coordination with other EU member states regarding evacuation. The ministry says it has a list of those seeking state assistance and this has been handed over to Israeli and Egyptian authorities.

Prosecutor's office closes Barcelonagate investigation

The prosecutor's office has ended its investigation into Barcelonagate after no evidence of a crime was uncovered, the state prosecution announced. An investigation had been probing claims of an organized criminal group involved in money laundering linked to former prime minister and leader of GERB Boyko Borissov.

In June, former chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev even asked for Borissov's immunity because of the investigation. The GERB leader initially did not want to surrender it but later gave it up voluntarily. This came shortly after Geshev's removal, and Borislav Sarafov became acting chief prosecutor.

A few weeks later, the prosecutor's office opened an investigation against the prosecuting lawyer who had worked on Barcelonagate, (Stefan Hristov) and he was removed from this case, and all others he was working on.
