Radev opposes new agriculture laws

President Rumen Radev has appealed to the Constitutional Court due to changes in the Law on the Protection of Agricultural Lands, which enable the construction of renewable energy installations on arable land.

The president has written that he disagrees with changes to the farmland protection law introduced through the Renewable Energy Act, which is part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan legislation. By removing almost all restrictions on the placement of renewable energy installations on arable land, the new regulations create the risk of uncontrolled conversion of agricultural land into any type of power plant, he said.

Lovech province rations water

A new water regime is being introduced starting today in Lovech. The water supply will now be interrupted twice a day - from 12:00 to 16:00 and from 23:00 to 06:00, reports the press center of the municipality.

This is the third change since October 5. Restrictions on the use of water for drinking and domestic needs continue, while the use of drinking water for watering green areas, washing balconies, streets and motor vehicles is prohibited.

The regime is imposed due to the permanent drought and the strong reduction in the flow rate of the water supply group "Cherni Osam" and the water sources for Lovech. From the information provided by the municipality, it is not clear how long the restrictions will last.

Inflation falls to 6.3%

Inflation in Bulgaria is continuing to slowly recede and is already at levels last seen at the end of 2021.

In September, the indicator fell to 6.3% on an annual basis compared to 7.7% in August, according to the data of the National Statistics Institute.

However, this seemingly positive development is not yet a reason for cheer - the decline is largely due to a base effect, as the huge price gains from mid-2022 gradually fall out of the year-on-year calculations.

A sharp decline in several tourism-related services also had an effect on headline inflation. In the meantime, however, food, fuel and a large part of the other goods and services from the consumer basket rose in price compared to August.
