Inflation falls to 8.7% in June

Inflation continued to slow, falling to 8.7% in June, the lowest level since the end of 2021, data from the National Statistics Office shows.

The moderation of price growth, as in previous months, comes mainly from energy products and related sectors - fuels, transport, tourist packages and some household services. Oils and fats, as well as seasonal vegetables, are also seeing a reduction of prices. For most of the other groups, however, prices continue to grow on an annual basis, albeit more slowly.

The decline was expected after the peak reached at the end of last year. Both in Bulgaria and in Europe as a whole, it was highly dependable on the stabilization of energy prices. The increase in interest rates by central banks over the last year also has an effect, which shrinks credit activity and suppresses demand.

Car theft operation unveiled

Eleven people have been arrested for the theft of at least 4 cars. The cars were stolen from Sunny Beach, Plovdiv and Stara Zagora. They are worth between BGN 20,000 and BGN 60,000. Among those arrested are three men from Vratsa who committed the physical theft of the cars. Two more men were detained - one was responsible for moving the stolen cars to a depot for cutting, and the other - for selling their parts after they were disassembled.

Six people were arrested at the cutting depot in a village near Sliven. The physical perpetrators of the thefts were found with signal scanning and car unlocking equipment.

Sopharma acquires Serbian Pharmanova

Bulgarian pharmaceutical company Sopharma has signed a contract for the purchase of the Serbian Pharmanova, a private company from the same sector. The deal will be conducted in stages: Sopharma will initially acquire 25% of the company, followed by another 50% in one year's time and the remaining 25% in two years.

The value of the deal has not been specified, and the announcement only says that Pharmanova's net sales revenue for 2022 exceeds EUR 10.2 million, i.e. this will be a relatively small bite for Sopharma, whose consolidated revenues are close to BGN 1.68 billion. The portfolio of the Serbian company consists of over 30 drugs: immunostimulants, nutritional supplements, healing creams and other medicinal products, which it sells in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia. The company, which is based in Belgrade, was founded in 1991, with a production base in Obrenovac, a small town near the Serbian capital.
