President Radev hands out final mandate

President Rumen Radev gave BSP the third and last authorization to create a cabinet today. Similar to the previous two recipients, GERB and WCC, its chances of success are virtually negligible.

Nearly four months after the elections, each political faction in parliament has made clear with which formations they could form a coalition and which they would rule out. No potential combinations allow for a sustainable majority, and the concept of an expert government has likewise not gained much enthusiasm.

Annual inflation rate unchanged month on month

December's annual inflation rate, at 16.9%, was unchanged compared to November 2022, according to the National Statistical Institute. In the last month, the cost of living has increased by 0.9 percent.

In December 2022, compared to November, the greatest price increase was detected in the following sectors: entertainment and culture (+8.5%), healthcare (+2.2%), miscellaneous goods and services (+1.6%), as well as restaurants and hotels (+1.4%).

Road repairs neglected in 2022

Only a third of the planned road sections, and not a single section of highway and principal roads, were repaired in 2022, according to the Roads and Infrastructure Agency.

Management reshuffles, insufficient funding, and poor decision-making are just some of the reasons cited by associations of road users for the stalled road reconstruction.

In 2022, the agency, in response to a question from Dnevnik, claimed to have completed the repair of 970 km of roads (including highways, as well as first-class, second-class, and third-class arterial roads), but all the evidence reveals this to be an exaggeration.
