Second attempt at cabinet fails

Only We Continue the Change and Democratic Bulgaria supported the declaration of priorities of WCC, the party with the second mandate to form a government. GERB and Vazrazhdane voted "against", while DPS, BSP and Bulgarian Rise chose to "abstain".

The president gave the first government mandate to the largest parliamentary group GERB-SDS at the beginning of December. However, the government he proposed did not gather sufficient support in parliament. It remains to be seen who will take the third mandate from President Radev.

Manufacturing investments decline in 2022

After unexpected growth in 2021, announced new investment in manufacturing last year was significantly weaker. In 2022 the total amount of money poured into manufacturing was slightly over 700 million levs. This is half of the investments announced for 2021.

There is no decline in the number of projects, but the vast majority are small. At the same time, there were few large-scale investments to stimulate the economy of a given region. Many technological companies, an energy and communication giant, several financial companies and a handful of industries - this is a summary of mergers and acquisitions deals in Bulgaria in 2022. After the lull in the pandemic year of 2020 and the excitement of 2021, the past 12 months have brought new activity to the market in an attempt to offset the previous slowdown. But Russia's war in Ukraine and global trade tensions, energy uncertainty and soaring inflation have left investors cautious.

According to Capital's data there were about 60 transactions in 2022, which forecasts no overall change in the number compared to the previous year. As before, the vast majority of corporate transfers are small in size, except for tech companies, and buyers are usually local.
