Talk of a new political party - with the participation of two caretaker ministers - dominates the news. At first, the new formation seemed little more than a rumor, but now it seems like a concrete possibility. Today, Parliament Speaker Iva Miteva (from the self-styled anti-establishment There is Such a People formation, the biggest force in the National Assembly) announced that the likeliest date for presidential elections is 14 November.

New political formation looks likely

А new political project with the participation of caretaker Minister of Economy Kiril Petkov and caretaker Minister of Finance Assen Vassilev could be in the offing and stand in the next parliamentary elections. Caretaker Prime Minister Stefan Yanev, announcing this today, added that he would join such a party. Petkov later explained that he would not comment on political projects until his term as caretaker minister expired.

Health Ministry ready for dialog with business over new Covid measures

Health Minister Stoicho Katsarov has offered to open discussions with businesses over possible anti-Covid measures. His offer came after restaurateurs expressed dissatisfaction with proposals suggested yesterday by Chief State Health Inspector Dr. Angel Kunchev. They include prohibiting restaurants from serving indoors or only allowing indoor events at 50 per cent capacity if all staff and diners have been vaccinated, can prove that they have already had the virus, or can provide a negative PCR test.

Monbat registers 30% increase in sales to 176.3 mln levs

Battery manufacturer Monbat reported a 30% increase in sales for the first half of 2021. Having made 134.5 mln levs (68.8 mln euro) in the pandemic-marred H1 2020, they have rebounded to 176.3 mln. levs (90.2 mln euros) for H1 2021. Sales began growing in the second half of last year and so this marks a continuation of this trend. The main part of the revenues (about 150 million levs) comes from the sales of lead-acid batteries, followed by the recycling business.
