Regulator sets even lower gas price for May
The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission has approved a natural gas price of 64.40 levs /MWh for May, excluding access, transmission, excise, and VAT charges. This is the price at which Bulgargaz will sell gas to end suppliers and licensed heat producers and transmitters.
The approved price is slightly lower than the 64.95/MWh originally proposed by the state-owned company. Compared to April, the new price reflects a 14.22% decrease.
Producer prices rose by 17% over the past year
Producer prices fell by 0.5% in March compared to February, but increased by 17.4% year-on-year, according to the National Statistical Institute. In the energy sector, prices dropped by 1.6% month-on-month, and by 0.5% in manufacturing. The mining industry saw a sharp monthly rise of 7.6%.
Annually, the most significant price hikes were in energy - up by 53.1%, as well as mining - up by 32.4%. Manufacturing prices rose by 10.7% over the year.
Key yearly increases include: basic metals production (+29.8%), food products (+24.4%), and beverages (+15.5%). Price declines were recorded in tobacco products (-12.4%) and furniture (-6.8%).
Nearly 1000 police patrols to monitor roads over May holidays
More than 970 police teams will be deployed across Bulgaria's roads during the upcoming May holidays when traffic is expected to intensify, announced Maria Boteva, Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Department.
She specified that on May 2, 4, and 6, police presence will be increased on highways and expressways between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM. On May 1, 3, and 6, a specialized operation will target drivers without licenses or those driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Boteva urged all drivers to report any vehicles displaying suspicious behavior to the Ministry of Interior.
