Trump Jr. meets Boyko Borissov in closed conference
GERB leader Boyko Borissov was spotted entering the hotel where Nexo hosted its meeting with Donald Trump Jr. GERB's press center confirmed that such a meeting had taken place, but that it could not give further information without the other party's consent.
Journalists accredited for the forum, which had initially been announced as a public meeting, were not given access to Donald Trump Jr., explaining that he had asked for more time to rest. When greeted at the airport, Trump Jr. delayed getting off the plane until the cameras were turned off.
The footage showed Antoni Trenchev, Nexo's founder, getting off the plane. His company announced some time ago that it would sue Bulgaria for 3 billion dollars after the prosecutor's office probed violations in its activities.
Germany's Festo expands R&D center in Bulgaria
Six years after establishing a Technical Engineering Center (TIC) in Sofia, German automation solutions manufacturer Festo is expanding its local development activities again. The local company Festo Bulgaria now has additional laboratories and office space in the capital, and expects to hire another 130 engineers by the end of the year. The total number of employees in the company now exceeds 1,000, which includes those employed in factories in Sofia and Smolyan.
Festo's engineering center is located in two locations in the capital - in the Inter Expo Center, where the laboratories are located, and in the neighboring business building. The current expansion affects both locations, with the office space increasing from 1,500 to 2,250 sq m, and the test laboratory - from 1,400 to 2,500 sq m. The company does not specify the investment, but manager Kalin Dobrev tells us that a total of 10 million euros will be invested this year, including in production.
Housing transactions slow down
The housing market in Bulgaria in the first quarter of 2025 grew, yet only slightly. Purchases of apartments, houses and other buildings increased by only 2.19% compared to the same period in 2024 and reached 27,364, according to a breakdown of the data of the Registry Agency (RA) for the first three months of the year.
The cooling is generally not a surprise, since in the previous quarter - the fourth of 2024, the NSI house price indices registered an 18.3% growth on an annual basis - the highest in the last 16 years, and also the highest in the EU. And not only that - in each of the quarters, prices increased by double digits - by 16% in the first, 15.1% in the second, and 16.5% in the third.
