Govt signs exploration deal with Shell subsidiary for Black Sea oil and gas

Bulgaria has signed a contract with Shell Exploration and Production B.V., a subsidiary of energy giant Shell, to explore for oil and natural gas in Block 1-26 Khan Tervel, located in the country's exclusive economic zone in the Black Sea.

The agreement was signed by Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov. Shell's Executive Vice President for Exploration, Strategy, and Portfolio, Eugene Okpere, also attended the ceremony.

Stankov said this could lead to finding the cheapest gas for Bulgarian consumers, as there would be no transit fees, and the country would benefit from concession revenues. Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov added that developing domestic resources has great potential, although it will take time.

Donald Trump Jr. to visit Bulgaria for Nexo event

Donald Trump Jr. will visit Bulgaria on April 27 for a business event hosted by crypto company Nexo. The event, titled Trump Business Vision 2025 hosted by Nexo, will take place at the Balkan Palace Hotel in Sofia and bring together Bulgarian and international business leaders.

The focus will be on the role of technology in the future of finance and opportunities for strategic cooperation between the U.S. and global markets. Trump Jr.'s visit is part of a broader tour of Eastern Europe, including stops in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, and Bulgaria.

Details of the event are yet to be announced.

Housing prices in Bulgaria soar by 200% over the past decade

Residential property prices in Sofia have surged by 200% over the past 10 years, according to data from real estate agency Imoteka.

Since 2015, prices in Varna and Plovdiv have risen by 120% to 150%. In Sofia, the average price per square meter has jumped from 715 euro in 2015 to more than 2,100 euros in early 2025, based on actual transactions recorded by the company. Property transactions in Sofia have doubled between 2015 and 2025. In Varna, transaction activity rose by around 45-50%, while Plovdiv saw a more modest increase of about 15% over the same period.
