Zhelyazkov cabinet survives Vazrazhdane's vote of no confidence
After 77 days in power, the government led by PM Rosen Zhelyazkov survived its first vote of no-confidence without any surprises. This happened with the expected support of the MPs from MRF - New Beginning of Delyan Peevski, who voted against the motion submitted by Vazrazhdane, Mech and Velichie over what they said was inadequate foreign policy of the government. The WCC-DB parliamentarians showed tacit support for the cabinet by not participating in the vote.
As expected, the motion of no confidence received the support of only 54 MPs, against 150 votes against it from GERB, BSP, TISP and the two warring MRF factions. After the vote, Zhelyazkov thanked the parliamentary groups that supported the government: "You supported Bulgaria's European perspective and the prospect of democratic development - the kind that the majority of society wants."
Market Links: If elections were held today, Peevski's party would be third
On the day of the vote of no confidence, the Market Links polling agency released the first surveys on the electoral attitudes of citizens after the establishment of Zhelyazkov's cabinet. The data shows that MRF - New Beginning party led by Delyan Peevski is the third political force, with 11.2% of those who have decided they would definitely go to the polls saying they would vote for it.
GERB is first with 23.1% support and WCC-DB runs second with 14.8% of support. The pro-Russian Vazrazhdane is losing ground, going down to fourth place from ???? with 11%. Ahmed Dogan's MRF garners 6.5% support and BSP has 6%. The last three parties that would enter parliament by crosing the 4% threshold are TISP (4.5%), Mech (4.4%) and Velichie (4.4%). Nearly 10% of those who participated in the poll have not decided for whom they would vote.
Sofia Tech Park showcases upgraded version of its Discoverer+ supercomputer
Sofia Tech Park has officially announced the successful upgrade of the Bulgarian Discoverer petascale supercomputer, which is part of the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU). The upgraded version, called Discoverer+, includes the installation of 4 servers with 32 NVIDIA GPU chips to improve overall performance. Data storage capacity has also been increased to ensure the high-performance system can meet evolving computing demands. The machines themselves come from Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Last but not least, Discoverer has received additional UPS systems.
The Discoverer+ has a new class of features, GPUs and memory, and its performance has been significantly increased. The machine is now specialized for training neural networks, working with large language models, artificial intelligence, creating digital doubles, machine learning and other computationally intensive tasks. The project is collaboration between Bulgarian consortium Petascale Supercomputer Bulgaria and EuroHPC JU, in partnership with technology companies A1 Bulgaria, Eviden, Hewlett Packard Enterprise and NVIDIA.
