Borissov: Dogan's people will not receive posts, we're prepared for a minority cabinet
"I am most dangerous when I am sad" - with these words early today Boyko Borissov announced that Ahmed Dogan's people will not receive appointments in ministries. The GERB leader added that he was ready for a minority cabinet if Dogan's MRF leaves the government
The decision that Dogan's faction will not receive a single post in the executive branch follows yesterday's first serious bust-up in the cabinet. This came after a declaration from Dogan's faction of MRF that there is a secret coalition between GERB, BSP, There is Such a People and Delyan Peevski.
Despite stressing that they would not receive posts, Borissov added that he "is not parting ways with anyone" just yet. He claimed that if Dogan's faction splits away, a minority government could be considered, and this would continue until the draft budget is adopted.
Only 14% of Bulgarians support the US in dispute with the EU
Support for Bulgaria's membership of the European Union (EU) has increased in the last six months, reports Alpha Research, citing a jump from 57 to 61 percent. This equals the historically highest values for this indicator. The study was conducted in the period 20 - 28 February 2025 among 1,000 adults through a direct standardized interview with tablets.
On the most contentious current issue - Bulgaria's stance on the growing schism between the US and Europe - most respondents (59%) feel that "Bulgaria, as part of the EU, should support the common positions of the union and strengthen its unity and strength" (59%).
The opposite position - "Bulgaria should adhere to the positions of the United States, since they are stronger," was supported by only 14 percent of respondents. A total of 27% did not have an opinion.
Sofia Marathon in doubt this year
The Sofia Marathon may not happen this year after the Lion's Heart Sports Club, which was selected as its organizer through a competition, officially refused to do so.
The only realistic chance that the marathon, scheduled for October 12, will now go ahead is if the previous organizers agree to stage it. Yet preparing an event of this magnitude in a short period could prove unfeasible. For reference, last year more than 7000 participants took part and half of the capital's streets were closed.
A message from Lion's Heart appeared this morning on the organization's Facebook page. In a detailed statement, the club described all the ups and downs it has gone through in its attempt to organize the race.
