Rosen Zhelyazkov's government has experienced its first serious bout of internal warfare after GERB, BSP and There is Such a People suddenly accused Ahmed Dogan's faction of MRF of trying to destabilize the cabinet. At an extraordinary briefing in parliament, the three formations stated that Dogan's wing was trying to blackmail its partners, demanding positions in the executive branch and protection for people with criminal pasts.
The tension in the ruling majority comes against the backdrop of the procedures for filling the regulators and criticism from Dogan that Delyan Peevski's associates are being prepared for leadership positions. Dogan's faction also demanded that the cabinet do what is necessary to stop the local appointments of Peevski's cadres and the repression of Dogan's loyalists.
PM wants military to benefit from unused funds in EU recovery plan
At today's meeting of EU leaders in Brussels Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov proposed that funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan that have not been spent, or are impossible to absorb, should go to the military. Zhelyazkov specified that he was talking about investments in both state-owned and private companies.
Recently, Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev said that the second payment under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, amounting to 653 million euros, would be denied to Bulgaria. If Bulgaria's proposal is accepted today, they can be saved. Whether he will be able to convince EU leaders to make this concession remains to be seen.
Zhelyazkov added that the Bulgarian military industry still produces products mainly according to Soviet standards, but should be aiming at production in line with NATO standards.
1.5 m levs for teacher training in maths and natural sciences
The Ministry of Education and Science has proposed a new national program known as Future for Talents, which is designed to prepare a new generation of motivated and creative teachers. Through them, it wants to create and develop a network of national and regional schools for training talented students in the fields of mathematics, informatics and natural sciences. The budget of the program runs to 1.5 million levs.
The goal is for the most experienced and the best teachers to pass on their skills to younger teachers and for them to continue their successful work in schools that prepare students for participation in international Olympiads.
The ministry has proposed to implement a total of 24 national programs in 2025, two of which are new - Future for Talents and Skills in Focus. The rest are related to arts, sports, educational excursions, road safety, the prevention of aggression in schools, and other programs.
