Security Council meeting appraises geopolitical situation

Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov convened a meeting of the Security Council of the Council of Ministers today, the government's press service announced. The meeting was called to conduct a "review and analysis of the current geopolitical situation and the resulting risks to national security" in the wake of President Trump's decision to temporarily suspend all military aid to Ukraine.

In addition to the permanent members, the chairmen of all parliamentary groups were also invited.

The meeting will also discuss whether Bulgaria should agree to increase its defense spending. The topic is to be discussed at a special summit in Brussels on Thursday.

34% of all employed Bulgarians work in Sofia

For the sixth year in a row, the Institute for Market Economics (IME) has published data and analysis of Bulgaria's economic development by municipality. And, perhaps unsurprisingly, Sofia employs more than 34% of all employed citizens in Bulgaria.

The capital, where salaries are assumed to be the highest, ranks 3rd on this indicator with 2,855 levs. The top positions are taken mainly by small municipalities, in which large companies operate, forming a significant part of labor income in the region.

Longest railway tunnel's pipes require reinforcement

The longest railway tunnel in Bulgaria, which is still under construction, will be additionally reinforced, as its pipes are already becoming yielding, announced the Minister of Transport Grozdan Karadjov, who visited the facility to inspect the problems. The tunnel is located near Vakarel and is part of the Elin Pelin - Kostenets high-speed route, on which trains will be able to travel at 160 km/h.

Karadjov explained that the reinforcement of the tunnel was made with a light and cheap structure, which does not work in heavy clay soils.
