Govt allocates 15 million levs to theaters and the Ministry of Culture

A total of 15 million levs will be distributed to state theaters and the central administration of the Ministry of Culture, the government press service reported today.

The money for the theaters, which amounts to 5.6 million levs, will go towards unpaid current expenses.

Another 9.4 million lev are planned for the administration of the Ministry of Culture, of which 2,339,662 leva are for obligations under concluded contracts for subsidies for creative projects and other expenses.

Businesses complain of shortage of builders and tailors

Nearly two-thirds of employers in Bulgaria are having difficulty finding staff. Most in demand are builders and tailors while - on the other hand - the most training seems to be given to restaurateurs and economists in vocational high schools.

In terms of 15 of the 20 professions most needed by employers, local secondary education prepares very few (less than 1% of the intake) or no personnel at all, concludes a report entitled Vocational Education and the Labor Market released by the Institute for Market Economics (IME) for 2024, and published on February 4.

Vocational education is offered in all 28 regions in Bulgaria, the intake of which in recent years now accounts for nearly 60% of all students. Its goal is to directly connect students to the labor market by preparing personnel and ensuring their skills are relevant.

Parliament rejects Peevski's idea of a Soros commission

Parliament has rejected a proposal by Delyan Peevski, who is sanctioned for corruption by the US and the UK, to create a commission to "expose the Sorosoids" - a reference to those who carry out the supposed agenda of 94-year-old American investor and philanthropist George Soros.

Support for the initiative came from MRF, There is Such a People, MECH, five MPs from BSP and one from GERB. MPs from Vazrazhdane left the plenary hall immediately before the vote, although (leader) Kostadin Kostadinov's formation was the most active during the discussion.

During the one-hour debate, various representatives from There is Such a People, Vazrazhdane and MRF - New Beginning made a series of accusations against media, organizations and political parties, which were named as "agents of Soros".
