Govt will withdraw 2025 budget and tax laws

The proposed 2025 budget and tax laws will be withdrawn based on the latest report for January 2025, as well as data published by Eurostat, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov announced before the first cabinet meeting today.

Zhelyazkov said this would allow a more accurate assessment to be made based on analyses, the macro framework for the possibilities before the budget, as well as the medium-term budget forecast.

After the cabinet meeting, it was announced that the move aims to secure financing for the new government's policies. It also became clear that the deficit in the state budget for the first three months of the year will be over 3.63 billion levs, which will require dipping into the fiscal reserve.

Businesses will be compensated for high electricity prices

Earlier today the government adopted a program to compensate non-household consumers for high electricity prices. Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov explained that the compensation will be 100% above the value of 180 leva per megawatt/hour to the average exchange price on the Bulgarian Independent Energy Exchange.

The minister pointed out that the program's goals include stopping inflationary processes related to the price of electricity, guaranteeing jobs for those working in energy-intensive industries, and maintaining the competitiveness of Bulgarian business. Stankov specified that the program is financially secured until the end of March.
