GERB, DB, BSP and ITN in talks over potential cabinet

Between Christmas and New Year, GERB and Democratic Bulgaria (DB) exchanged drafts for a coalition agreement but beyond that nothing was disclosed. President Rumen Radev delayed the mandate by nearly a month due to stalled government formation efforts and the holidays, with speculation that GERB may receive it as early as next week.

On Thursday evening, GERB, DB, BSP, and ITN issued a joint statement affirming that coalition talks are ongoing, marking the first collective meeting among the four parties. Previously, discussions were limited to GERB and DB, while BSP and ITN remained in a waiting position.

Transportation connection improvements coming for Terminal 2

Starting on January 9, the concessionaire of Sofia Airport, SOF Connect, is introducing a new access and parking system at Terminal 2.

The changes require all vehicles accessing the terminal to pass through barriers that will register their license plates, offering a 10-minute free stay in the "hug zone" for dropping off or picking up passengers. The goal is to improve traffic flow, safety, and the quality of service for passengers and visitors while also preventing illegal parking and congestion.

This follows the recent opening of a new 1,000-space outdoor parking lot, with ongoing renovations of the covered multi-story parking facility, set to be completed this year at a cost of 25 million levs.

Interim Budget Plan prioritizes pensions and social payments amid delays

The government has proposed interim legislation to manage state finances until the 2025 budget is adopted, prioritizing salaries, pensions, and social benefits under existing rules.

Capital expenditures will be limited to unspent funds from 2024, while pension payments are guaranteed in full. Provisions include continued funding for public broadcasting and a delay in establishing a Radio and Television Fund. The proposal, valid retroactively from January 1, 2025, is set to last through March, with parliamentary discussions starting January 7.
