Parliament remains without an elected speaker
Another week has passed with Parliament in virtual deadlock. After eight consecutive attempts, parliament remains without an elected Speaker. Despite initial confidence among politicians that a "first among equals" would be chosen, early today GERB decided at the last minute to withdraw Raya Nazaryan's candidacy and support BSP's nominee, Associate Professor Natalia Kiselova, which reshuffled the political puzzle and placed WCC-DB in a difficult position.
Ultimately, the coalition refused to support the constitutional law expert and voted as before: WCC backed the eldest MP, Silvi Kirilov, while Democratic Bulgaria did not, which leaves things even more complicated than during the last vote. This means that next week will likely bring no resolution and leave Parliament immobile for the next few weeks until a decision is reached.
The next vote is scheduled for Wednesday at 11 AM.
Siteground buys emblematic ruined mansion in Sofia
Businessman Valentin Zlatev has sold the deteriorating and emblematic central mansion in Sofia on San Stefano street famously known as the 'House with Strawberries' to Siteground, an IT company which has promised to restore it.
The new owner has expressed readiness to work with experienced specialists, engineers, and restoration experts. After completing the necessary assessments and analyses, a detailed restoration plan will be developed, aiming to preserve the unique appearance and historical identity of 'The House with Strawberries,' a statement says.
The plan is for the building to become the representative headquarters for all company activities. Valentin Zlatev had previously announced plans to demolish the building and rebuild it according to the original design because it had structural damage and was seismically dangerous.
