Tensions flare in Parliament

Kiril Petkov, co-chair of WCC and Delyan Peevski, leader of the coalition MRF - New Beginning, exchanged sharp words today in parliament even before the session started. This is the second time this week Peevski has insulted other politicians publicly, after he threatened the President and called him "Mr. Cash".

The altercation lasted about four minutes, starting immediately as Petkov entered and took his seat, which is near that of the sanctioned-for-corruption MRF co-chair. Parliamentary Speaker Silvi Kirilov repeatedly called for order, urging them to stop so the session could proceed. Order was eventually restored.

Inflation in Bulgaria rises again in October

After months of slowing consumer price growth, which dropped to 1.2% in September, inflation in Bulgaria is climbing once more. In October, annual inflation increased to 1.8%, with prices rising across nearly all goods and services, according to national statistics.

This uptick was somewhat anticipated as the base effects from declining energy prices began to fade. The IMF's latest forecast predicts Bulgaria's inflation will reach 2.7% by the end of the year. Similarly, inflation in the Eurozone has shown fluctuations, rising to 2% in October from 1.7% the previous month.

BTL Industries moves to new base

A little over two years and nearly 100 million levs in investment later, medical equipment manufacturer BTL Industries will relocate to its new facility in Plovdiv at the beginning of next year. Despite the scale of this project, the company continues to prioritize its R&D efforts. Its latest product targets a new market segment-improving mental health-and more similar products are planned.

In addition to its Plovdiv factory, which manufactures equipment for physiotherapy, cardiology, urology, and more, the company also has an R&D center in Sofia, actively involved in developing and implementing new products. However, for the first time, the Czech group is entering the market with a product that affects the human brain. The device for treating major depressive disorder is the result of years of research by both the local and international BTL R&D teams, and development is primarily led by Bulgarian specialists.
