President calls Peevski "Arrogance on Steroids"

President Rumen Radev has described the leader of MRF-New Beginning Delyan Peevski, who repeatedly threatened the president on Monday, as "arrogance on steroids".

Radev added that people should not be so naive as to think that Peevski will come to his senses and "disappear on his own".

The president's retort followed Peevski referring to the president as "Mr Cash" and even threatening that people could storm the presidency if Radev failed to bring order to the country.

Radev responded by urging political parties to quickly resolve the issue of electing a Speaker of Parliament to expedite the formation of a government. He did not clarify whether he would refer changes to the constitution affecting the appointment of interim governments to the Constitutional Court, but he indicated that "this issue will inevitably be addressed."

Brussels: Bulgaria is violating 3 EU Directives

Bulgaria has violated three European legislative directives on environmental protection, energy and climate, financial services, and stability, according to the European Commission.

The Commission is filing a case against Bulgaria in the Court of Justice of the European Union for failing to meet obligations under the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (Directive 91/271/EEC). Cities are required to build the necessary infrastructure for collecting and treating urban wastewater. The Commission previously sent official letters in 2017, followed by a reasoned opinion in May 2020 and is therefore now initiating legal action.

Brussels also issued an official notice for failing to submit its final updated National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) in line with the Regulation on Governance of the Energy Union and Climate Action. Additionally, a reasoned opinion was sent for failing to notify the Commission of the full transposition of the revised Motor Insurance Directive (Directive (EU) 2021/2118 amending Directive 2009/103/EC) into national law.

IKEA to open another store

Furniture chain IKEA plans to open another order center and store by March 2025. Preparations are underway for the new store in Pernik, located in the Pernik Plaza retail park, with an area of 500 square meters. The company states that the store will have a unique format for Bulgaria, specializing in the design and ordering of kitchen, wardrobe, and bathroom solutions.

IKEA Bulgaria reported total sales of 164 million levs for the 2024 catalog year, which ended on August 31, representing a 6% increase from the previous year. Online sales grew by 14%, with the sales growth largely attributed to reduced prices on a range of products.
